A school phobic girl’s description of what it feels like to be school phobic
On telling someone yesterday that I work with children, helping them beat their school phobia, I again encountered some familiar responses.
“But surely there are lots of children who don’t like going to school, don’t these ‘school phobics’ just need to be told that life’s not all fun and to get on with it?”
“Isn’t it really about parents who over indulge their children and make home too comfortable?”
NO and NO!
You’re worn out with the strain of it. You wake in the morning with dread of what the next hour and a half will bring, as you face the prospect of trying to get your school phobic child to wake, eat, dress, and get out of the door into the car and into school and then get yourself to a day’s work.
